Knowing Him Daily

The grass is always greener, that’s what the world tells you. And the enemy will make sure you see exactly how green it looks on the other side of the fence.

Watch an animal graze sometime. Doesn’t matter the breed, doesn’t matter the pasture. It will always reach through the fence, or over it, straining toward whatever patch of grass isn’t on its side. It’s never satisfied with what’s directly in front of it. (If you want to go deeper on that fence picture, I wrote about it here: Satan Owns the Fence.)

But here’s the distinction we have to make. We are called to be content and at peace with all things, but one.

Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

But there is one place we are never meant to be content, never meant to stop reaching. Knowing Him more.

That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death… Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after… I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians‬ ‭3‬:‭10,12,14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Paul was content with everything except his pursuit of Christ. That’s the only restlessness a believer should carry, an ever-increasing hunger to know Him more, every single moment of every single day.

As believers, we have to put blinders on what the world offers us.

For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7

We don’t walk by what looks greener somewhere else. We walk by faith, doing His bidding, not our own. That means doing what He’s already told us to do, even if it’s something we should have done a long time ago, or even just recently.

Here’s what I’ve learned. Sometimes you come to the end of yourself and cry out, “God, why am I not hearing Your voice?” And His answer is simple: because you haven’t done what I last told you to do.

So let me ask you today, what have you decided? Have you set your mind, made up your heart, that no matter what, you’re going to do whatever He asks? That can be tough. Challenging. Sometimes it means coming completely to the end of yourself.

But if you haven’t reached the end of yourself, is it really worth it?

God loves you so much, and we have proof of it in every single aspect of our lives. We just have to choose to see it. We have a choice. And even when we are not faithful, He remains faithful.

If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself. 2 Timothy 2:13

The grass on the other side of the fence was never actually greener. It just looked that way because you were staring through the fence instead of standing firmly on what He already gave you.
