~Satan Owns the Fence~

11.May.2026

If I invited you over for coffee and made certain my cup was steaming hot while yours sat lukewarm on the table, would you consider that odd? Would you even enjoy that cup? I doubt it. That is exactly how our Heavenly Father feels when we are lukewarm in our hearts and our commitment to Him.

There is a story, a modern day parable really, that I have heard told many ways over the years but the punchline never changes. A large crowd gathered, Jesus on one side, Satan on the other, a fence running straight down the middle. Both began calling people to their side and one by one people chose. But one man climbed up and sat right on top of that fence. He wasn’t choosing either side. He was staying neutral, keeping his options open, not quite ready to commit.

Eventually everyone left. Jesus and His people walked one way, Satan and his walked the other. The man sat alone on the fence, satisfied with himself for avoiding the whole thing.

Then Satan came back.

He looked up at the man and said, come with me.

The man protested. I didn’t choose you. I didn’t choose anyone. I sat on the fence.

Satan smiled and said, that’s alright. I own the fence.

He who is not with Me is against Me, Jesus said in Matthew 12:30, and He meant it. There is no neutral ground in the kingdom of God. There never was. The fence feels safe and reasonable and like the grown up measured response to a complicated world, but Scripture is not complicated on this point. Revelation 3:15-16 says, I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.

That is not mild language. God would rather you be cold than indifferent. He would rather have something to work with than nothing at all. Lukewarm is the one temperature He cannot use.

The hour is too late for the fence. The days we are living in are not the days for measured responses and comfortable Christianity and keeping one foot in both worlds just in case. This is the moment to choose, fully, completely, with everything you have.

Get off the fence.

If you have never made that choice, today is the day. Pray this with me:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for sending Jesus to die on the Cross just for me. I admit that I have sinned, and I repent. I ask You to forgive me. I believe that He died and rose again. Right now, I make Him the Lord of my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. My sins are washed away, my past is forgiven, and my future is bright. Help me to live like the beloved that I already am in Christ. Thank you for saving me.

In Jesus name,

Amen

Make today count and see you tomorrow.
