~First Be Reconciled~

8.November.2026

I believe dying to ourselves is what puts our relationships in order. The self-life keeps score, defends its side, and needs to have the last word. When it loosens its grip, people stop being opponents.

Jesus put this ahead of worship.

Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
Matthew 5:23-24

Notice what He stopped. He did not say finish the offering and deal with it later. He said go first. What happens between people matters to the Father because people’s hearts matter to Him.

That does not mean pretending nothing happened. What was said and what was done still have to be named, because hearts were involved. Reconciliation is not forgetting. It is telling the truth in a way that is meant to heal.

Left alone, so that the damage does not stay in the past, it ends.

Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil.
Ephesians 4:26-27

I believe an unresolved wound is room for the enemy to work, in my own mind and heart and in the other person’s.

I can do my part. I cannot control their response. Dying to myself means I stop needing to be right more than I need to be reconciled, and I leave the rest with the Lord.

This is what I am asking myself. Am I protecting my side of the story, or going first to make it right in a way that honors God?

Make today count. See you tomorrow.
