“Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure. Do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you must go, for you have not passed this way before.”
Joshua 3:4 NKJV
Some days are not the end of one chapter or the start of the next, they are the space in between, and the space in between is very easy to mistake for being lost.
When Israel stood at the edge of the Jordan, they were not handed a map; they were told to watch for the ark of the covenant, to go after it when it moved, and to keep a distance between themselves and it so that they could see the way, because they had never walked this road before. God did not apologize for the unfamiliar ground, and He did not give them a five-year plan, He gave them His presence to follow and just enough room to see where it was going.
That is a comfort, because most of us do not want to take a step when we cannot see where it ends, and yet the instruction here is not to see the end but to keep our eyes on Him. The space was not an empty gap where God had stepped away, it was room to watch Him lead, and anyone who has stood too close to something large to see its shape will understand why that room mattered.
Then comes the promise that follows us through every unfamiliar place.
“Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” Whenever you turn to the right hand Or whenever you turn to the left.”
Isaiah 30:21 NKJV
Notice that it says when, not if, which tells us He expects us to arrive at turns and to stand unsure at them, and that He has already planned to speak to us in those moments, not as a loud demand but as a knowing by His spirit that says this way, and then gives the next step after that.
So if today finds you between what was and what is coming, you are not behind and you are not forgotten; you are standing where Israel stood, on ground you have not walked before, with the One who has already walked it going ahead of you.
Consider this: where has He left you a little space to watch Him lead, and what would change if you stopped trying to close that space and simply followed?
Make today count. See you tomorrow.
