For many years, I’ve made myself available for God to work through me. I’ve often known what He said in His Word, and somehow I knew it would come to pass. I didn’t always understand how. I simply trusted that it would.
It works because of Who said it.
In hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began.
Titus 1:2
Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for I am ready to perform My word.”
Jeremiah 1:12
God’s Word is Truth. He cannot lie, so what He has spoken will accomplish what He intends. My faith is how I come into agreement with Him; it isn’t what makes His Word powerful. His Word does the work. It is dependable, whether or not I understand how.
That’s where things can get muddled. We can start trusting in our own belief, in how much faith we have or how strongly we hold on, instead of trusting in God.
So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God.”
Mark 11:22
We can also mistake results for proof that everything is right. Earlier this week, we read about seven men who used the right words but were overpowered. The evil spirit knew Jesus and knew Paul, but it did not know them. A result may show that God’s Word is dependable, but it doesn’t necessarily show that we’re walking in agreement with Him.
Can two walk together, except they be agreed?
Amos 3:3
Whatever the situation, if it isn’t God working in us, or we aren’t in agreement with Him, then something is missing.
So here’s the question I’m sitting with: Am I standing on what God has said, or on how strongly I believe it?
Make today count. See you tomorrow.
