~Choosing the Fear~

24.October.2026

Yesterday we asked whether what we do for Him comes out of time with Him or out of what we already know about Him. That leads to a harder question. What can be missing from a life that is full of church and worship?

You can attend church, love God, and worship Him as passionately as anyone else, yet still lack the fear of the Lord. Walking in the fear of the Lord means deliberately choosing to hate everything that is evil and opposed to the values of God’s Kingdom. That is Divine Order.

The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate.
Proverbs 8:13

On Monday we saw that the fear of the Lord is honor and reverence, not terror. Here Wisdom adds what that honor does. It turns us against what He is against.

It also means remaining teachable.

In Proverbs 1, Wisdom is the one speaking, and the people she is speaking to had refused her.

Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the LORD, They would have none of my counsel And despised my every rebuke. Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, And be filled to the full with their own fancies.
Proverbs 1:29-31

Notice the word choose. They did not drift away from the fear of the Lord. They did not choose it. And notice what went with it, no use for counsel and no patience for rebuke. A person who cannot be corrected has not chosen it, however much they sing.

It is a choice we make again each day, to hate what He hates and to stay open to His correction.

I challenge all of us to ask ourselves this question. Have I chosen the fear of the Lord, with hatred of all evil and an open ear for correction, or only the parts of Him that are comfortable?

Make today count and see you tomorrow.
