Yesterday we saw that we go as people authorized by Him. The question that follows is what He did with those people before He sent them.
And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils:
Mark 3:14-15
Notice the order Mark gives. They were ordained to be with Him, and then to be sent, and only then is the power to heal and to cast out devils named. Being with Him comes first in the sentence, and I think it comes first in the life.
The disciples did not start with a method. They walked with Him, ate with Him, watched Him with the crowds, and heard Him say what the Father gave Him to say. By the time He sent them out, they had spent that time beside Him.
You can see what that produced in Peter and John, the same two we saw answer the rulers two days ago.
Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
Acts 4:13
The rulers could not point to schooling or position. The only thing they could point to was that these men had been with Jesus. The Name was what they went in, and the authority stood behind them, but what the rulers noticed was His presence on them.
Presence is not a step we pass through on the way to power. It is where the power and the authority get their meaning, and it is what we carry with us when we are sent.
Let’s all consider the following question as it pertains to us. Is what I do for Him coming out of time with Him, or out of what I already know about Him?
