An All-Inclusive Departure From “Normal”.
A few days ago I told you about something the pastor said, that healing someone’s body is never contingent on their permission or their belief, and that stopping at the healing is an all-inclusive vacation from being me. Today we finish where that began, because healing was never the destination. It is a doorway.
Peter and John met a man at the temple gate who had been lame from birth and was begging for money. Peter did not have money to give him, but he gave what he did have.
Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. Acts 3:6
The man went walking, leaping, and praising God, and the crowd came running. Peter did not take the credit, and he did not stay on the miracle either. He pointed everyone at Jesus and went straight on to call them to repent and turn to Him.
And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him perfect soundness in the presence of you all. Acts 3:16
Then there is the man born blind in John 9. He was healed before he knew who Jesus was, and when people asked, all he could say was that a man called Jesus had done it. The leaders cast him out for it, and that is when Jesus came looking for him.
Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him. John 9:35-38
The healing came first, and it did not wait for him to believe. Then Jesus found him and gave him more than sight.
In both stories the healing was real and complete, and in both it opened the door to the One who heals. When it stops at the healing, it becomes the very thing the pastor warned about, relief with no relationship, and a return to normal with a better body. That is not what we were sent to give, because the real all-inclusive is knowing Him.
That is the departure from normal this whole series has been about. It is not a nicer routine. It is a life lived with Him, where we go, we proclaim, we take authority over sickness, we love, and we keep running because we know Him.
I challenge all of us to ask ourselves this question. When someone is healed, helped, or loved through me, do I point them past the gift to the Giver?
Make today count and see you tomorrow.
