~Two Kinds of Sorry~

An All-Inclusive Departure From “Normal”

3.October.2026

There is a kind of sorry that only shows up after getting caught, and there is a kind of sorry that has nothing to do with being caught at all. Scripture shines the truth on this perfectly.

Godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. 2 Corinthians 7:10

Worldly sorrow is sorry about consequences. This is when exposure happens, and it tends to evaporate the moment the consequence passes. Godly sorrow is type of sorry that is about the relationship itself, and it does not need exposure to exist, because it was never waiting to be caught in the first place.

For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known. Luke 12:2

This is important to understand, because worldly sorrow’s entire logic depends upon staying hidden long enough. Jesus says that nothing actually stays hidden. So sorrow built on the hope of never being found out was always standing on ground that was never there to begin with.

Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
I Corinthians 3:16, 6:19

He already dwells in you. Not in response to bad behavior being discovered, not invited after the fact, already there, in the room, the whole time. That changes what sin actually is. It is not breaking a rule while unsupervised. It is grieving someone intimately close who never once left.

At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me.
John 14:20-21

Notice the order here too. Awareness comes first, at that day you will know, and obedience flows out of it, he who loves Me keeps My commandments. Keeping commandments was never the thing that earns closeness. Becoming conscious of the closeness that already exists is what makes someone not want to hurt Him in the first place.

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me… The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. Psalm 51:17

That is the posture of godly sorrow. Not performance, not groveling, not the relief of having gotten away with explaining yourself well. Just real brokenness, because you hurt someone intimately near to you who was supposed to be the closest relationship you have, and for a moment you treated that lightly.

Consider asking yourself the difficult question. Which kind of sorry has actually been mine, the kind that only shows up when I’m found out, or the kind that grieves because I know exactly who I grieved?

Make today count and see you tomorrow.
