An All-Inclusive Departure From “Normal”
Before we begin a new series, one thing has to be established. What happens when a person comes to Jesus is not a small adjustment to an otherwise fine life. It is not a nice addition, a helpful habit, or a comforting idea layered on top of who someone already was. It is a complete turn around from everything that used to be “normal”, and Jesus was not vague about how serious that change actually is.
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:3
Not improved. Not born again in some poetic sense. An actual new birth, with no substitute available and no lesser version that still gets the same result. Nicodemus was a teacher of Israel, someone who had spent his whole life inside religious practice, and Jesus still told him that none of it, however sincere, could replace being born again. That is how non-negotiable this is.
How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him. Hebrews 2:3
That word neglect is worth consideration. This is not written to people who rejected salvation outright, it is written to people who simply did not treat it with the weight it deserved, who let it sit unattended long enough that its actual size stopped registering its importance . Something can be genuinely believed and still silently neglected, and Hebrews asks a real question about what happens then.
Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Philippians 2:12
Salvation is not a moment completed and then set aside. It is worked out, continually, with a kind of reverence that never treats it as old news. That is what an all-inclusive departure from normal actually means. Not a single step through a door one time, but an ongoing walk away from everything that door was closing behind you.
Everything said in the days ahead about how salvation gets handled, talked about, and sometimes cheapened, is said from inside this conviction, not against it. This is not casual and God never meant a relationship with Him to be.
