I have to share what God did this week.
I flew to my home state on Tuesday for what I thought was just a routine heart doctor appointment for a family member. When we got there, they told him he wasn’t even due for another two years, the appointment had been scheduled by mistake. I sat there thinking, I flew all this way and rented a pickup for nothing. But God had a completely different reason for me to be in that room.
While we waited, more became clear about how he had been living for the past few years. He’d lost muscle and body mass. His requests to be taken to church and to the gym had been denied. When the doctor asked him how he was doing, I looked at him and told him to be honest, then I looked at the doctor and asked him to please hear it and be honest, and he did and was.
Following the appointment, we went to lunch, and I finally asked him the question I’d been praying for two and a half years he’d be ready to answer. What do you want? He said, if I could leave, I would. He is his own guardian, and that choice has always belonged to him. What me great sadness is how easily people had convinced him, again and again, to accept far less than what was actually best for him.
Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.
Proverbs 31:8-9, ESV
We made one phone call at his request. By the time we reached the new provider’s office, less than two hours after that lunch conversation, a home was already open and waiting. By the time he finished signing paperwork, the new home provider was standing there with a bright light in her eyes and a smile on her face. The whole meeting took about an hour and a half. He didn’t even have to go back and face the person he’d been living with, someone else handled all of that.
When I dropped him off after shopping for new clothes, she handed him her phone with the Walmart app open and said, what do you like to eat? Pick whatever you want. Before I even left, it was all delivered. I don’t know if he’s slept better than he has in years, but I know he felt safe.
They’re already making arrangements to get him to the church he chooses and to the gym.
I’ve been sowing seeds into this family member for two and a half years, praying, hoping, waiting. This week, I got to watch God bring the harvest, in one day, through an appointment that technically didn’t even need to happen.
I’m in awe. Thank you, Jesus.
If you have never given your life to Jesus Christ, you can do that right now. Pray this with me:
Dear Heavenly Father,
I confess that I have sinned, and I believe Jesus died for my sins and rose again on the third day. I ask Jesus, come into my heart and be my Lord. Thank You for saving me.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Make today count and see you tomorrow.
