New home. New city. New everything. If you have followed along with me this past month, you already know I am living every bit of that reality right now, boxes still being unpacked, routines still being rebuilt, a whole life being reassembled in a place I am still learning my way around. Nothing about this season feels settled yet, and that is simply the fact of where I am.
Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil.
Hebrews 6:19
An anchor does not require calm water to do its job. It was made for exactly the opposite, for the moments the water is rough, the boat is rocking, and everything around you feels unstable. The anchor does not hold because the surface has settled, but because it is fixed to something solid beneath all of that movement.
That is where I am learning to live right now. My surroundings have not settled. My routine has not settled. Much of my home is still in boxes, and I still get turned around driving somewhere new. But the anchor was never meant to depend on any of that. It holds because hope, real hope, sure and steadfast, reaches down into something that does not move no matter how much everything else does.
I do not have to wait for the unfamiliar to become familiar before I can feel steady. I can be anchored right here, in the middle of the boxes, in the middle of the new city, in the middle of not knowing where everything goes yet, because what is holding me was never the environment to begin with.
Are you waiting for your circumstances to settle before you will let yourself feel steady, or can you be anchored right now, in the middle of everything still moving?
If you have never given your life to Jesus Christ, you can do that right now. Pray this with me:
Dear Heavenly Father,
I confess that I have sinned, and I believe Jesus died for my sins and rose again on the third day. I ask Jesus, come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Make today count and see you tomorrow.
