There is a difference between decluttering and surrendering. One rearranges what you own. The other loosens your grip on it.

I have picked up items lately that I remembered clearly, where I got them, what they meant, even the moment I packed them away. That was never the problem. The problem was I had forgotten they existed at all, tucked into a drawer or a closet or a storage bin, taking up real estate I was paying for in space, in money, in attention I did not even know I was spending. Something can be precious and still be forgotten. Something can matter to you and still not belong in your hands anymore.

That question does not stop at drawers. It reaches into everything we hold onto without realizing the weight of it, the plans we packed away and never revisited, the version of ourselves we keep in storage instead of living out today. Jesus was direct about this. Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Matthew 6:19-21 He was not simply warning against wealth, but was naming the truth that whatever we store and protect the most reveals where our heart has truly been.

Holding loosely does not mean the item, or the person, or the season meant nothing. It means you trust the One who gave it to you more than you trust your own need to keep it in reach. Every open hand becomes a small practice, a rehearsal for the moments life will ask something bigger of you than a forgotten drawer.

So today, walk through your own space. Find something you know exactly where it came from, and ask honestly whether it still belongs in your hands. If it does not, let that be enough. Let every release become an act of trust, not loss.
