Anyone who has moved knows the moment. You open a closet you haven’t touched in years and realize how much you’ve been carrying that you didn’t even remember was there. Clothes that no longer fit, boxes never unpacked from the last move, things kept simply because getting rid of them felt harder than keeping them. Clearing it out physically has a way of exposing something deeper.

Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. Hebrews 12:1

Weight isn’t always sin. Sometimes it’s just clutter, old mindsets, old hurts, old habits that once served a purpose but now only slow you down. You don’t have to justify keeping something just because you’ve had it a long time. If it’s not helping you run, it’s worth laying down.

Forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14

Forgetting isn’t pretending the past didn’t happen. It’s refusing to let it keep taking up space that belongs to what’s ahead. Paul had plenty he could have held onto, both good and bad, and he chose to release his grip on all of it so he could actually move forward.

This is where the physical and the spiritual mirror each other so closely. You can’t fully unpack a new home while boxes from three moves ago are still sealed in the garage. And you can’t fully step into what God has for you while your mind is still storing offenses, old identities, and clutter that was never meant to make the trip with you.

Some of what you’re carrying was useful once. Some of it never should have been picked up at all. Either way, holding onto it now isn’t wisdom, it’s just weight.

Dear Heavenly Father, 

I confess that I have sinned, and I believe Jesus died for my sins and rose again on the third day. I ask Jesus, come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me.
