Knowing Him Daily

Think about what it actually meant for Jesus to become human. Not just wearing skin for a while, but truly becoming like us. He had to become a child, grow up, experience feelings, and learn how to master them. He experienced rejection. He had to develop His own relationship with our Heavenly Father, the same way we do.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us. John 1:14

He made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. Philippians 2:7

He didn’t just observe humanity from a distance. He walked in life and through life. If He was willing to sacrifice His life for us, He understood the full weight of what that meant, because He also saw firsthand what religious tradition had done to people. He watched how the relationship God intended with His people had shifted into empty ritual, rules replacing trust, performance replacing relationship.

Make no mistake, He was still fully human in His experience growing up. What child doesn’t want to be liked on some level? What child is so grown up they never feel that pull? Scripture doesn’t record Him saying it directly, but He grew up like any child does, navigating emotions, wanting connection, wanting to belong. The difference is what He built His identity on. He developed a relationship with the Father where He knew, without question, that He was loved. And once that was settled, none of the rest mattered the same way. He didn’t regard rejection from people, being misunderstood, even the weight of religious tradition around Him, none of it could shake what He already knew to be true about His Father’s love for Him.

That’s the pattern we’re meant to follow too. Not immunity from feeling, not bypassing the human experience, but building an identity so rooted in the Father’s love that everything else loses its grip.

Dear Heavenly Father,
