Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God. 1 John 3:1

Behold, what manner of love… Stop and actually look at this. Not ordinary love, not love with conditions attached, but a love so specific and so lavish that it grants you an identity you didn’t earn and can’t lose.

You are called a child of God. Not a servant hoping to be noticed. Not a distant acquaintance but His child. And scripture goes even further than that.

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ.
Romans 8:16-17

That word joint-heir means you inherit alongside Jesus Himself, not a lesser portion, not scraps left over, but a genuine share in everything that belongs to Him.

This is where your identity finally rests, not in what you’ve accomplished, not in what people call you, not in how anyone has treated you or failed to treat you. Your identity rests in whose child you actually are. Do you know that yet?

Think about everything we’ve covered this week. He’s not a distant judge but a Father. He chose you first, before you ever chose Him. He never changes, so His love for you today is exactly what it was yesterday and exactly what it will be tomorrow. He sees you completely, all of you. He disciplines because He loves you, not to punish you but to shape you like a tree that grows fuller after pruning. He provides for what you actually need, trusting Him even in the waiting, even when others question what they can’t yet see.

All of that flows from this one truth: you are His child.

Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? Matthew 7:9,11

That’s the kind of Father He is. Not one who withholds or gives grudgingly, but one who delights in giving good things. And sometimes those good things show up in ways you never expected. This week, while trusting Him for what’s ahead, I was upgraded to first class on a flight, completely unexpected, completely unexpected. Give, and it shall be given unto you (Luke 6:38). Not long ago, I upgraded someone to first class. It was the first time they had ever flown that way. And now, in this season of trusting my Father for provision, He gave that same gift right back to me.

There’s a song by Carman called Fear Not, My Child, and the whole message of it echoes exactly what we’ve been building all week. Whatever you’re facing, whatever uncertainty surrounds you right now, packing boxes, flying somewhere new, driving toward what’s next, His response to you is the same as it’s always been.
