Knowing Him Daily

Let’s come at this one with hungry hearts.

Now behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature. So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him, for He was going to pass that way. So he made haste and came down, and received Him joyfully.  Luke 19:2-4, 6

Zacchaeus had a hunger to see Jesus. Not a casual curiosity, a real hunger, the kind that made a wealthy, powerful man run ahead of a crowd and climb a tree like a child, undignified, exposed, watched by everyone. That’s what real hunger can cost. It’s not always comfortable, and it doesn’t always feel dignified.

But when they saw it, they all complained, saying, He has gone to be a guest with a man who is a sinner. 
Luke 19:7, NKJV

Jesus was criticized for going to Zacchaeus. The crowd judged. But Jesus saw past the tax collector’s reputation and went straight to his hunger.

We see commercials all the time, enticing us, and because of smart advertising, our stomach responds before we even realize it. But this is a different kind of hunger, one without manufactured enticement. Make no mistake, though, it will still involve your flesh, your mind, your will, your emotions. Discipline is required when it’s inconvenient, when you simply don’t feel like it.

Long before Zacchaeus climbed that tree, there was a woman running from an impossible situation, alone in the wilderness, forgotten by everyone who should have protected her. And God saw her there.

“Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, “Have I also here seen Him who sees me?””
Genesis‬ ‭16‬:‭13‬ ‭

Hagar named Him that in the middle of her lowest moment, the God who sees me. Not distant. Not disinterested. Seeing her exactly where she was, in her pain, in her fear, in her isolation.

O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether. 
Psalm 139:1-4

He sees you the same way He saw Zacchaeus in that tree and Hagar in that wilderness. Fully known, fully seen, whether you’re running toward Him with everything you have or barely holding on in a desert moment. He sees past what everyone else notices and goes straight to the hunger underneath.

If you’ve never given your life to Jesus, or if you’ve walked away, trying to do life your own way it’s not too late. He’s calling you back. He’s been waiting. Return to Him today. Surrender your plans, your pain, and your past. He’s ready to restore, renew, and realign you with your divine purpose.

Thank You for sending Jesus to die on the Cross just for me. I admit that I have sinned, and I repent. I ask You to forgive me. I believe that He died and rose again. Right now, I make Him the Lord of my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. My sins are washed away, my past is forgiven, and my future is bright. Thank you for saving me.
