We need to understand the difference between these two things, because so much of your walk depends on knowing which one the moment calls for.

Confession is agreeing out loud with what is already true. It’s alignment. When you confess, you are saying what has already been established as fact, what already exists as truth, whether or not you can see it yet with your eyes.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. ‭‭Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

That is confession. You are agreeing with what God has already declared true about salvation. You didn’t create that truth. You aligned yourself with it.

But declaration is different. Declaration is you, releasing something into existence through your own words, with the authority you carry. And here is what you need to understand: it’s not God declaring things and you simply repeating them after Him. It is you, using the authority He already gave you, actually speaking it into being yourself.

All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations. ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭28‬:‭18‬-‭19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

He gave us all authority. That means His hands are tied, in a sense, until we actually use what He gave us. He is not going to declare it for you. He already did His part two thousand years ago. Now He’s waiting on you to speak.

This is as much about doing the word as it is knowing it. Look at how Jesus Himself declared things. When the enemy came to tempt Him in the wilderness, three separate times, Jesus responded the same way every single time: it is written. Not His own reasoning. Not His own feelings. The word only. That is our model, and we should follow it.

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. ‭‭Luke‬ ‭10‬:‭19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

That authority is yours. Not borrowed. Not temporary. Given. And declaration is what happens when you actually pick it up and use it. You speak what isn’t yet visible into being. You command it. You don’t wait around hoping God does something on your behalf that He already handed over to you.

Confession says, “This is already true, and I’m agreeing with it.”

Declaration says, “I carry the authority to call this into being, and I am doing it right now.”

Both matter. You need to know what is true before you can declare anything with confidence. But don’t confuse the two. Confession aligns you with truth. Declaration releases that truth into your circumstances through your own mouth, with your own authority, because He gave it to you and He is waiting on you to use it.

Dear Heavenly Father,
I confess that I have sinned, and I believe Jesus died for my sins and rose again on the third day. I ask Jesus, come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me.
