Knowing Him Daily

Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree. Galatians 3:13

Before we can talk about what’s ours, we have to be honest about what wasn’t. Long before the cross, God laid out through Moses exactly what life looked like outside of covenant blessing: sickness that wouldn’t respond to treatment, oppression that wouldn’t lift, confusion, fear, poverty, defeat that followed a person no matter how hard they worked against it. It’s a hard passage to read and was never meant to be comfortable. It was meant to show, in plain terms, what the curse actually cost a person who lived under it.

That’s the backdrop of what Galatians 3:13 is standing against. Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us. Not part of it. Not the parts we consider spiritual and leave the rest to chance. All of it, the sickness, the oppression, the disorder, every category named in that list, was already dealt with at the cross.

This matters because so many of us were taught to approach God as if we’re still standing outside that redemption, hoping to qualify for something we haven’t yet been given. But redemption isn’t a hope, but rather a finished transaction. The curse was real, and it was fully paid for, which means what’s being offered to you today isn’t a possibility, it’s an inheritance already settled in your name.

Tomorrow we’ll look at what that actually means for you personally, not as a doctrine to admire from a distance, but as an exchange He made on your behalf. For today, simply consider this: whatever category of the curse you’ve been unknowingly living under, it was already named, and it was already paid for.
