Knowing Him Daily

Being active for Him is not about being busy, it is about being available. It is about listening for His voice in the middle of your ordinary day and recognizing when He is calling you to step into an assignment that will forever change someone’s eternity.

Any of us can pick up a piece of trash that does not belong. Any of us can return a shopping cart out of thoughtfulness for the clerk. Any of us can notice a book in the wrong place at the library and return it to the reshelve rack. Anyone can be observant and do something about what they see. But here is where the call on a believer’s life rises to a higher standard.

It is not just about being a good citizen. It is about seeing the mom at the checkout who does not have enough money, watching her son ask for a bag of chips or a lunchable, and hearing her say quietly, “No, son, we will share.” It is about noticing someone sitting on a bench, maybe contemplating removing themselves from this earth entirely, and knowing that you might be the last person they see before they do something unforgettable and irrevocable. It is about encountering a woman who wants to know Jesus and is willing to go the extra mile if you will just walk with her to a crusade .

Each of us has our own individual assignment. Moment by moment. Day by day. Week by week. Month by month. Year by year. The question is: are you listening for His momentary assignment that would have an impact on someone’s eternity?

Be very careful, then, how you live not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭15‬-‭16‬

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. ‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭23‬ ‭

Take time to spend time with Him in His Word. Listen for His voice. Ask Him, “Father, what is Your assignment for me today?” Stop being caught up in your own head about what is going on in your day. Stop thinking about what you want and what you think and what you feel. Instead, ask Him what He wants. Step out of your own mind and into His work.

As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. ‭‭John‬ ‭9‬:‭4‬

Here is the reality that nobody talks about: your circumstances might overwhelm you or you can take authority over them and say, “Not today, devil.” But here is the part that brings real regret if you miss it. Someone else misses their assignment. Now it becomes yours. Your appointment just changed and so did your responsibility. Your schedule is no longer your own when you are fully surrendered. And you have a choice: you can make one simple phone call and rearrange your day, or you can stay in your plan. You can say yes to Him or stay committed to what you thought you were supposed to do.

I know what it feels like to miss an assignment, I have been there. And I can tell you that the regret is not fun and it is awful. It is the weight of knowing that someone’s eternity might have been different if you had said yes.

So be active for Him. Not busy. Available. Listening. Ready to drop your agenda and pick up His. One phone call. One moment. One yes. That is all it takes to be active for Him instead of active for yourself.

Dear Heavenly Father, I confess that I have sinned, and I believe Jesus died for my sins and rose again on the third day. I ask Jesus, come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me.
