The difference between obligation and love is everything. When He is your everything, the entire motivation behind your choices shifts. You move from “I have to” to “I want to,” and that is not a small thing.
We love Him because He first loved us. I John 4:19
Think about what that means. His love came first. You didn’t earn it, you didn’t perform for it, and you can’t lose it. He loved you before you even knew His name. And when you truly know what He accomplished for you, something no one else on this earth could have done, and you experience His love in a way that no one else can touch you, everything transforms. You are motivated from a completely different place. You walk in a fearlessness like none other.
But here is the reality: not everyone will be receiving and accepting. Some will resist the gospel. Some will outright reject you for your faith. And here is what sets you free: they are not rejecting you. They are rejecting Him. They just don’t realize that’s what they’re doing. When you understand that distinction, the weight of their rejection lifts off your shoulders. It’s directional. It’s toward Him.
For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; II Corinthians 5:14
His love compels you. Not forces. Compels. There is a difference. And that compulsion comes from knowing the weight of what is at stake: their eternity. Their salvation may be at risk because of your silence. One day you will give an account for the life you lived and the boldness you had or didn’t have to share eternal life with them. That reality alone produces fearlessness. Suddenly being afraid of man’s opinion becomes irrelevant when you are aware of the higher calling, the eternal weight on someone’s soul.
I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart. Psalms 40:8
That delight comes from receiving Him completely. When His law is within your heart, you are not following rules from the outside in. You are living from the inside out. You have freedom of choice, and God does not force you to choose Him. Deuteronomy 30:19
But when you do choose Him, when you receive Him, the “want to” replaces the “have to” and everything changes. You are compelled by His love. You are aware of the higher calling. And you walk in fearlessness because you understand what is at stake.
If you have never given your life to Jesus Christ, you can do that right now. Pray this with me:
Dear Heavenly Father, I confess that I have sinned, and I believe Jesus died for my sins and rose again on the third day. I ask Jesus, come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me.
