We have spent this week together in one of the most important conversations a believer can have, and it comes down to this: when He is enough, everything else finds its appropriate place in our lives. And nothing on this earth, not your job, not your family, not your responsibilities, not the tangibles that will one day all pass away, holds a position in your heart that only He was meant to occupy. That is not neglect of those things but the proper ordering of them, because good stewardship flows out of a heart that is anchored in Him first.
There is a flow that comes when He is your everything, an ease that is not laziness but grace, and it is exactly what Jesus described: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”Matthew 11:28-30 That is the fruit of a life fully surrendered to Him, not striving, not performing, just resting in the One who carries the weight.
Paul learned this from a prison cell, which means it was not circumstantial: “I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”Philippians 4:11-13 Content in every state, not because everything was easy but because He was enough in all of it.
His grace is sufficient for every gap, every weakness, every place where you feel like you just do not have what it takes: “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 Not partial, not conditional, sufficient, and that means you are covered in exactly the places you feel most exposed.
And when He is your everything you are never alone, because He said clearly and it does not end: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6
“Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.” Psalm 73:25-26
When He is enough there is peace, there is joy and there is a presence that walks ahead of you and comes behind you, and that is not a feeling you manufacture, it is a Person you know, and knowing Him changes everything.
We need God, and believe it or not, He needs you, because there are things that only you and I can do in the assignment He has placed on our lives, and that is to be His hands and His feet here on the earth, His ambassadors until He comes back to get us. That assignment does not begin when you feel ready, it begins the moment He becomes enough.
Until God is enough, nothing else will be enough.
If you have never surrendered to Jesus or have strayed, it is not too late. He is waiting to restore and renew you. Return to Him today and say this out loud:
Dear Heavenly Father ~
Thank You for sending Jesus to die on the Cross just for me. I admit that I have sinned, and I repent. I ask You to forgive me. I believe that He died and rose again. Right now, I make Him the Lord of my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. My sins are washed away, my past is forgiven, and my future is bright. Thank you for saving me.
In Jesus’ Name
Amen.
