Remember Peter walking on water, fully sustained, fully capable, right up until he took his eyes off Jesus and looked at his circumstances, the wind and the waves instead. The moment his focus shifted he began to sink, not because the power left him but because his attention changed, and that is exactly what happens to us when we keep our eyes on our own circumstances instead of on Him and His Word.
We know the difference between fact and Truth, and we know which one we carry, which means we have zero excuse, none, to withhold it from the people we encounter who do not yet know Him.
Let me ask you something bold, because Paul did not soften this when he wrote: “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?” Romans 10:14 If we do not answer the call that is on every single one of us without exception, are we not internally communicating that someone’s eternity does not matter to us, that we were too inconvenienced, too rushed, too consumed with how we felt in the moment to care enough about where they spend eternity?
That is a hard word and I am speaking it to myself as much as anyone, because there are days I feel inconvenienced too, and feel is the word that keeps tripping us up, because our feelings are never the standard.
Peter stood before the people and declared: “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 None other name. Not a suggestion among many options. The only name, and you may be the only person carrying it that someone will ever meet.
This is what it means to be an ambassador, and an ambassador does not represent their own opinions or their own comfort, an ambassador represents the nation that sent them, speaking on behalf of a kingdom that is not their own, carrying authority that was given to them rather than earned by them, exactly as Paul describes: “Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.” 2 Corinthians 5:20 In Christ’s place. Standing in His place. That is not a small assignment and it was never meant to be convenient.
Keep your eyes on Him and His Word. Stop sinking into your own excuses.
Make today count and see you tomorrow.
