Saul was called by God. He was anointed, he was chosen, and with one decision, one moment of partial obedience that looked like reasonable judgment, he forfeited everything. Not because God stopped loving him. God grieved over Saul. But because the assignment requires full obedience, not the portion of it that is convenient or comfortable or makes sense to you in the moment.
Samuel said. “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams.” 1 Samuel 15:22 Saul brought an offering and did not bring obedience. God was not impressed with his substitute.
We are in a compression of time. This age, this moment in history, this last leg of the race moves faster than any that came before it. And you were chosen for it on purpose. Not by accident. Not because you are the most qualified. Because He saw something in you that He wanted to work through, and He placed the baton in your hands deliberately.
You are running the fourth leg of a relay. You did not start this race. Every believer who ran before you, every martyr, every missionary, every faithful grandmother who prayed in a back bedroom for decades, they ran their leg and handed it to you. What you do with it matters, not just for you, for everything that comes after.
And here is what Saul’s story makes unmistakably clear, partial obedience is disobedience. The last thing God told you might still waiting, the thing you set aside because the timing felt wrong, because it was inconvenient, because you talked yourself into a reasonable explanation for why later would be better than now. He has not forgotten it and neither have you.
“If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land,” Isaiah 1:19 Willing and obedient. Both. Not one without the other. Willingness without action is just intention. Obedience without a willing heart is just religion. He wants both and He deserves both.
This is not about what you can do in your own strength, it never was. You are simply the vessel, His mouthpiece, the one who said yes. He does the work through you. Your only job is to stay surrendered and keep moving on the last thing He told you.
The baton is in your hand. The finish line is closer than it has ever been.
Run.
If you’ve never surrendered your life to Jesus or you have strayed, it’s not too late. He’s waiting to restore and renew you. Return to Him today and say this out loud:
Dear Heavenly Father ~
Thank You for sending Jesus to die on the Cross just for me. I admit that I have sinned, and I repent. I ask You to forgive me. I believe that He died and rose again. Right now, I make Him the Lord of my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. My sins are washed away, my past is forgiven, and my future is bright. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus’ Name,
Amen
Make today count and see you tomorrow.
