~Repent~

20.May.2026

For most of my life repentance felt like guilt with a religious label on it. You did something wrong, you felt bad, you said sorry, and you moved on hoping you’d do better next time. At least that was my version of it for a long time — and honestly it was mostly because I got caught. What followed was shame and condemnation that I carried for years, sometimes decades. And even when I finally understood what true repentance was supposed to look like, nobody had explained it in a way that made me feel free and clean before the Father.

It was only the Word that rewrote those tapes. Declarations like I have the mind of Christ. No weapon formed against me shall prosper. He who began a good work will be faithful to complete it. Spoken out loud, over and over, until the voices that had contributed to all that shame lost their volume.

But there is a version of repentance that has nothing to do with guilt, shame and condemnation but has everything to do with love.

I almost skipped right past it that night. My first thought was honestly that I had nothing left to repent of because I deal with things as they come. So I just worshiped. I sang. I enjoyed loving on God without an agenda. And then quietly, gently, He put His finger on something. Not with condemnation. Not with guilt. Just a tender recognition that I had been trying to figure out things I was never meant to carry.

It felt like Him saying, this is keeping you from me. Not because He was angry. Because He wanted more with me. There is a difference between a God who is jealous over you and a God who is jealous for you. He is the second kind. He wants you close not because He is possessive but because He loves you and closeness is the whole point.

That is the repentance that lasts. Not the kind that comes from getting caught or feeling ashamed, but the kind that rises up from intimacy. His yoke is easy and His burden is light and that is exactly what genuine repentance feels like when your heart is yielded. Easy. Simple. Free.

Repent and turn back so that your sins may be wiped out and times of refreshing may come from the Lord. (Acts 3:19) Refreshing. Not punishment. Not a lecture. Refreshing.

Return to Me with all your heart. (Joel 2:12) Not your behavior. Not your performance. Your heart. He is always after the heart.

If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9) All of it. Not some. All.

So if you feel there is something keeping you separated from God or interfering with your relationship with Him, that gentle nudge you are feeling right now is not condemnation. It is an invitation.

Repent today not because you are afraid of what happens if you don’t. Repent because you know Him well enough to care. Because intimacy with God is worth protecting. Because the times of refreshing that follow are unlike anything else.

Release led you here. Repentance clears the path. Tomorrow we talk about what it means to remain.

If you’ve never surrendered to Jesus or have strayed, it’s not too late. He’s waiting to restore and renew you. Return to Him today and say this out loud:

Dear Heavenly Father ~

Thank You for sending Jesus to die on the Cross just for me. I admit that I have sinned, and I repent. I ask You to forgive me. I believe that He died and rose again. Right now, I make Him the Lord of my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. My sins are washed away, my past is forgiven, and my future is bright. Thank you for saving me.

In Jesus’ Name

Amen.

Make today count and see you tomorrow.
