I want to ask you something honest. When you read the Bible, do you read it like it means what it says? All of it? Or do you find yourself doing what most of us have done at one point or another, reading around the parts that don’t fit comfortably inside the tradition you were raised in, the theology you inherited, the version of God that feels familiar, comfortable, and safe?
I was there once and I understand that response because I lived it. I grew up in a traditional, religious background and there were parts of Scripture that made the religious bones in my body stand straight up and say absolutely not. I am not throwing stones at anyone’s tradition, but I want to be like Jesus. At some point I had to make a decision to take the Word of God at face value, to simply believe it, all of it.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 3:16. Not some Scripture, or what’s comfortable Scripture, nor the parts that got a unanimous vote from your denomination. All of it.
And Psalm 119:160 says it simply, the entirety of Your word is truth. The entirety, and that word entirety is not an accident. It is a boundary marker and an invitation at the same time, because if the entirety is Truth then we don’t get to pick and choose which parts we build our lives on.
Here is what I have found in my own walk. The parts of Scripture I was most resistant to, were usually the parts I needed the most. The places where I pushed back the hardest were the places where religion had built a wall that the Word was trying to break down. When I finally stopped arguing and just believed God’s simple Truth, things started to shift, n my spirit, in my understanding, and honestly in my body too.
We are living in days that require a firm foundation, not a partial one, nor a carefully edited one. The Word of God, taken at face value, believed and acted on, is the most stabilizing force available to us right now. And it starts with a simple decision to just believe it.
All of it.
If you have never made that choice to give your whole heart to the One whose Word this is, today is the day. Pray this with me:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for sending Jesus to die on the Cross just for me. I admit that I have sinned, and I repent. I ask You to forgive me. I believe that He died and rose again. Right now, I make Him the Lord of my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. My sins are washed away, my past is forgiven, and my future is bright. Help me to live like the beloved that I already am in Christ. Thank you for saving me.
In Jesus name,
Amen
Make today count and see you tomorrow.
