LIVE LONG AND PROSPER

Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way you should go. Isaiah 48:17

Before we had microscopes, before we had parasitology, before anyone had the slightest understanding of what lives inside certain animals and what it does to a human body, God handed Moses a list. No pork, no shellfish, no scavengers, no birds of prey, and at the time nobody had a laboratory to explain the reasoning behind any of it. They simply had His Word, and for a people who had watched the Red Sea part and manna appear on the ground every morning, that was enough.

We have the laboratory now, and what it has confirmed is breathtaking.

Pork harbors parasites and pathogens that are extraordinarily difficult to fully eliminate even with high heat cooking, including trichinella, yersinia, and hepatitis E. Shellfish are filter feeders, meaning their entire biological purpose is to pull toxins, heavy metals, and bacteria out of the water they live in and concentrate them in their tissue. Scavenger birds do the same on land. God was not being arbitrary. He instructed His people about what not to eat, and they had no access to modern science, no laboratories, no microscopes, nothing but His command. What biology would spend the next three thousand years catching up to confirm, He simply declared as law.

This is where I want to be cautious, because this is not a post about putting anyone back under the law. The new covenant is real, Acts 10 is real, and food freedom in Christ is real. We will talk about that tomorrow. Here is what is worth sitting with today. He already knew. Before the first microscope was ever built, before germ theory existed, before anyone understood what a parasite was or how it traveled from animal tissue into the human body, He knew. And He told us.

That is not the voice of a lawgiver trying to control behavior. That is the voice of a Father who understood the design of every living thing He created, and who gave instruction rooted in love and protection long before science had the vocabulary to explain why.

Isaiah says He teaches us to profit and leads us by the way we should go, and that word profit means benefit, increase, what is genuinely good for us. He was not withholding good things. He was protecting us from things that were not good, thousands of years before anyone could prove it in a lab.

We can trust a God like that with our health.
