Before you ever thought about Him, He was thinking about you.
That is not a motivational phrase. That is theology. Ephesians 1:4-5 tells us He chose us before the foundation of the world, before the earth had a name, before you drew your first breath. This was never Plan B. Relationship with you was always the point.
In the beginning that relationship was unhindered. Genesis 1 and 2 paint a picture of intimacy so natural it is almost hard to imagine. God walking with Adam and Eve in the cool of the day, no distance, no shame, no hiding. Just creation in full conversation with its Creator.
And then Genesis 3 happened.
The fall did not destroy the relationship entirely, but it broke the intimacy. It was like a door that had always been wide open suddenly swinging shut. And what does God do? He comes looking. “Where are you?” Genesis 3:9. Let that land for a moment. He is omniscient. He knew exactly where they were, what they had done, and what it had cost. That question was not a search. It was an invitation. He was giving them the opportunity to step out of hiding and come to Him.
They did come but poorly, full of excuses and blame. He was already there waiting.
From that moment forward everything God put in place was moving toward one thing, restoration. The sacrificial system He established was not arbitrary. Every lamb, every altar, every drop of blood was a type and shadow, a temporary measure pointing forward to something permanent. Hebrews 10:1-4 tells us those sacrifices could never fully remove sin, they were never meant to. They were meant to point to the One who could.
And then Jesus came and fulfilled every single one of them. Hebrews 10:10-14. One sacrifice, once and for all, and it was enough. The door that swung shut in the garden was not just reopened, it was removed completely.
This is what we mean when we say He moved first. Not just at the cross, although that is the ultimate expression of it. He moved first in the garden when He came looking. He moved first every time a sacrifice was made. He moved first when He put on flesh and walked among us. He has always been the initiator and we have always been the responders.
We love Him because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19.
If you have been hiding, He already knows where you are and He is already asking the question. Maybe as you read this something stirred in you, and if it did, that stirring is Him. If you have never said yes to Jesus, or if you know it is time to come home, you don’t need fancy words. Just whisper this right now: “Jesus, I need You. I believe You died for me and rose again. Come into my life, forgive me, lead me. I’m Yours.” That is it. Everything heaven has been waiting to deliver is already yours the moment you ask. Welcome home. You are now part of the family of God.
Make today count and see you tomorrow
