There are moments when you cannot reach your child. Perhaps you cannot call, or they will not answer and you cannot show up at their door without making things worse. You cannot fix what is broken with the right words or the right timing. But there is one place you can always bring them, and that is before the Father.
Prayer is not a last resort or a “hail Mary” as some would say. It is actually the first and most powerful thing a parent can do. James 5:16 tells us that “the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” That word avails means it accomplishes something. It moves things. Prayer is not just talking into the air, rather it is the most active thing you can do for a child that you cannot reach any other way.
Paul wrote to Timothy, “I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience…as without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night and day.” That was a spiritual father praying consistently for someone he loved. That is your model. This a not prayer you say when the fear spikes, but a steady, faithful bringing of your child before God, day after day, whether you feel anything or not, whether you are rewarded with results.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 says to “pray without ceasing.” That does not mean you never stop talking. It means prayer becomes the posture of your heart. Your child’s name lives in your spirit. You carry them before God the way you once carried them in your arms.
1 Timothy 2:1 urges us to make “supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks…for all men.” Notice that giving of thanks is in that list. Thank God for what He is doing even when you cannot see it. Thank Him for the promise. Thank Him that your child is not beyond His reach. Gratitude is not denial, it is faith with its eyes open.
You may be in a season where prayer feels like the only thread connecting you to them and any hope at all. Good. Hold that thread. It is stronger than it looks, and the One on the other end is not letting go.
Bring them before the Father. He is already waiting.
Make today count and see you tomorrow.
