So far, we have talked about the secret place, the gift, the stewardship, the tank, the fruit. And if you have been doing the work, really doing it, something has been shifting in you this week. You are more aware. More tuned in. More conscious of the fact that faithfulness is not a Sunday morning event. It is a lifestyle. And today we are going to talk about where that lifestyle actually shows up most.
Not on a platform. Not in a pulpit. Not in a moment anyone is likely to applaud.
In the aisle. At the pump. In the checkout line. In the lobby of a hotel at four o’clock in the morning.
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:14-16, NKJV
You are the light. Not you will be someday when you have it more together. Not you could be if the circumstances were right. You are. Right now. In whatever ordinary place you find yourself today. The light does not get to choose when it shines, it simply shines because that is what light does.
Here is what I have experienced or heard about divine appointments. They do not announce themselves. They do not come with a warning or a preparation window or a convenient moment when you feel spiritually sharp and ready. They show up in the middle of your regular life and ask you to be available on the spot. And the only way to be ready for them is to already be walking in the awareness that every single encounter has the potential to be one.
I was checking out of a hotel early one morning, bags in hand, ready to walk out the door, when I heard that still small voice. Not audible, but unmistakable. Are you going to pass this opportunity to share Me with the man at the desk?
I did what most of us do. I kept moving. Surely that is not You, I thought. I finished checking out, turned to grab my suitcase, and heard it again. Same question. Same nudge. Still I hesitated. And then before I reached the first set of automatic doors He said it one more time, a little more direct this time. This man needs to know Me. Are you going to pass up this opportunity?
I turned around.
I walked back to that desk and shared the love of God in sixty seconds flat. A simple, honest, no-frills testimony. And then I asked him, would you like to receive Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior? He said he would. I told him it would not take thirty seconds. Right there in that hotel lobby at four o’clock in the morning, that man spoke the words that secured his eternity. All of heaven rejoiced!
Here is what I want you to hear. The enemy will never, not once, not ever, recommend that you share Jesus with someone. Never. That nudge you feel, that quiet prompt to turn around, to speak up, to ask the question, that is never the enemy. He does not work that way. So when you feel it, you can trust it. And when you ignore it, it becomes a placeholder of regret in your memory that you carry longer than you expect.
“Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”
Colossians 4:5-6, NKJV
Redeeming the time. That phrase means making the most of every opportunity because the days are short. Not forcing conversations or cornering people, grace seasoned with salt, not a hammer. But available. Aware. Willing to turn around when He says turn around.
“You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8, NKJV
What Paul carried was extraordinary. But what we carry is even greater, the same Holy Spirit, the same power, living inside us and moving through us into every ordinary moment of every ordinary day. You are not waiting for the anointing to show up. It is already there. You are just learning to move with it.
“Now we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us.”
2 Corinthians 5:20, NKJV
An ambassador does not represent themselves. They represent the one who sent them. And they are always on duty, not just when it is convenient, not just when the setting feels spiritual enough, but always. In the grocery store. At the gas pump. In the Walmart aisle. At the hotel desk at four in the morning.
So today the challenge is simple. The next time you are out, wherever you are going, go with your antenna up. Ask the Holy Spirit before you walk through the door to make you aware of whoever He wants to reach through you today. It might be a word of encouragement. It might be a smile that is the only bright thing in someone’s day. It might be a sixty second testimony that changes someone’s eternity. You will not know until you show up ready.
Do not pass the opportunity. You may not get another one.
Father, make me someone who moves with You in the everyday moments. Give me eyes to see the people You are already reaching toward and the courage to be the one You reach through. I don’t want to walk past a single divine appointment because I was too distracted or too hesitant to turn around. I am available. Use me.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
The time is short. The signs are everywhere. And somewhere out there tonight a person is sitting in a hotel lobby at four in the morning who needs to know that Jesus loves them.
Don’t pass them up. They need Jesus.
Make today count and see you tomorrow.
