We’ve covered a lot of ground in just two days. Day one we established that intimacy with the Father is the foundation, the oxygen mask goes on you first. Day two we got honest about the clutter, the things the Holy Spirit will show you when you’re brave enough to ask. Today we’re building on both of those because here is the truth: you cannot effectively do what we’re talking about today if you haven’t dealt with the first two.
Now we talk about the mandate.
Not a suggestion. Not an optional add-on for the especially bold believers. A mandate. Jesus didn’t whisper this one quietly to a small group and hope it caught on. He said it plainly, directly, and without apology. “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15, NKJV
Every creature. Not just the ones who are easy to love. Not just the ones in your circle, your church, your comfort zone. Every creature.
If I knew what was coming, if I could see the urgency of where we are on God’s timeline, evangelism would no longer be something I worked into my schedule when it was convenient. It would become the lens through which I saw every single day. Every conversation. Every person standing in line next to me. Every coworker, every neighbor, every stranger I’ll never see again after today.
Because here is what I know: we are running out of time. You don’t have to take my word for it. Look around. The signs are everywhere for anyone paying attention.
“Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.’” Matthew 9:37-38, NKJV
The harvest is plentiful. That hasn’t changed. What’s changed is the urgency. The fields aren’t just ripe, they’re past ripe, and every day we stay comfortable and quiet is a day someone doesn’t hear what they desperately need to hear.
I spent years being what I’d call a silent believer. I knew what I believed. I just kept it mostly to myself, tucked safely away where it couldn’t be challenged or rejected. And I want to be clear, God was still faithful in spite of that. He still worked through me even when I wasn’t cooperating. But I also know the weight of looking back at missed moments, conversations I walked away from, open doors I pretended not to see because I didn’t want to be uncomfortable.
If He can use a person who stayed quiet far too long, He can absolutely use you.
“How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent?” Romans 10:14-15, NKJV
Someone is waiting to hear what you carry. Terri Savelle Foy says it this way, “Somebody in need is waiting on the other side of your obedience!” I don’t know how that hits you, but it humbles me. Not a polished sermon, not a theology degree, just your story and the truth of what He has done in your life. That is enough. That has always been enough.
The Great Commission was never meant to be carried only by the ones standing behind a pulpit on Sunday morning. It belongs to every believer who has ever drawn breath since the day Jesus said go. That includes you. It includes me. And if we are honest about the state of the world right now, it has never been more urgent than it is today.
Go doesn’t always mean across the ocean, though for some of you it absolutely does. Sometimes go means across the street. Sometimes it means picking up your phone. Sometimes it means opening your mouth to the person sitting right next to you and saying, “Can I tell you something that changed my life?”
That’s it. Just be willing. He’ll do the rest.
“And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs.” Mark 16:20, NKJV
He confirms the word. Your job is to speak it.
Lord ~
Forgive me for the times I stayed quiet when You were opening doors. Give me eyes to see the people around me the way You see them, and give me the courage to open my mouth. Make me a laborer worthy of the harvest. I am willing. Use me. In Jesus’ name,
Amen
If you’ve never made that decision for yourself, today is your day. Just whisper, “Jesus, I need You. I believe You died for me and rose again. Come into my life, forgive me, lead me. I’m Yours.” That’s it. Everything heaven has been waiting to deliver is already yours the moment you ask. Welcome! You are now a part of the family of God!
Make today count and see you tomorrow.
