~Going Deeper: This Is Your Life~

18.February.2026

If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you know that a good chunk of my story involves coming out of traditional church feeling very disillusioned. After walking through some difficult seasons, some circumstances of my own making and some that simply happened to me, I looked at my life one day and thought: this is not what I wanted. This is not what I signed up for.

And maybe you’ve been there too.

Here’s what I’ve come to understand: if we are not being intentional about our choices, we are, by default, making the active choice to let the world or something else run our lives. And when we get quiet enough to really think about that, we come to the same conclusion pretty quickly. Nobody in their right mind ever woke up and said, what I want out of life is for life to just tell me what to do. I have no opinions, no desires, and don’t want a say in the matter. That’s not what any of us signed up for.

The truth is, everyone wants some level of control over their own life. And I want you to know, that desire is not selfish. It is not rebellious. It is not flesh. It is a God-given, deeply spiritual instinct placed inside every human being who has ever lived or ever will live on this earth. From the very beginning, God gave us something extraordinary: the power of choice.

“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live. Deuteronomy 30:19, NKJV

He didn’t choose for us. He laid both paths out, told us plainly which one leads to life, and then He let us choose. That is how deeply He honors the free will He placed inside of you.

But here’s the weight of that: if we don’t actively choose life, the default is death. It may not be immediate. It may not look dramatic at first. But slowly, but quietly, that is the direction an unchosen life drifts. The enemy doesn’t always come in like a marching band. Sometimes he simply waits for us to stay passive.

“The thief comes only to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10, NKJV

That abundance Jesus is talking about? It is not accidental. It is not handed to us while we sit on the sidelines of our own story. It is walked out, one intentional, faith-filled choice at a time.

This is also how the Word works. This is how intimacy with God works. We don’t go deeper out of duty. We don’t press in out of obligation or religious performance. We go deeper because we love Him, and because every time we think we’ve reached the bottom of how good He is, we discover there is more. There is always more.

“But as it is written: ‘Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.’”

1 Corinthians 2:9, NKJV

“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38–39, NKJV

“You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”  Jeremiah 29:13, NKJV

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” James 4:8, NKJV

I want to close today with a song that when I hear it, I can hear God asking each one of us the very same question.

“This Is Your Life” by Switchfoot

This is your life. Are you who you want to be? If you’re not a fan of this style of music, I purposely chose a video that has the lyrics on the screen. Simply turn the sound down.

Friend, that question deserves an honest answer. Not a guilty one. Not a shame-filled one. Just an honest one. Because the moment you answer it truthfully for yourself, that is the moment everything can begin to change.

God is not standing over you with a scorecard. It is as if He is standing with open arms, saying: I know the life you were made for. Let Me show you. I love you so much and I am so proud of you!

And if you’ve never made that choice, if you’ve never handed the pen of your story over to the One who authored you, today is a beautiful day to start.

If this stirs something in your heart and you’ve never said yes to Jesus, or maybe you have, but you know it’s time to come home, can I pray with you right now? Just whisper, “Jesus, I need You. I believe You died for me and rose again. Come into my life, forgive me, lead me. I’m Yours.” That’s it. Everything heaven has been waiting to deliver is already yours the moment you ask.

Welcome! You are now a part of the family of God!

Make today count and see you tomorrow.
