“The strongest principle of life and blessing lies in our choice. Our life is the sum result of all the choices we make…” Billy Graham
There is an invitation He offers us every day, one that does not shout, compete, or force His way forward. He waits. He lingers. He calls softly to the deep places of our hearts. Long before we ever thought to seek God, He was already seeking us.
Intimacy with God is not a reward for spiritual maturity, nor is it reserved for those who have everything figured out. It is to be our foundation. Everything else grows from here. Our peace, our clarity, our obedience, our endurance, they are all rooted in the closeness we cultivate with Him.
David understood this longing. He did not ask first for answers or deliverance. He asked for God Himself. “O God, You are my God, early will I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.” Psalm 63:1, NKJV
This was not desperation born of crisis alone. It was David’s desire. His heart was tender to the presence of God.
Jesus echoes this invitation with tenderness and promise. “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My Word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.”
John 14:23, NKJV
Not a visit. Not a passing moment. A home. God does not merely want moments with us. He desires us abiding.
Intimacy always begins with God’s initiation, but it deepens with our response. Trust is the posture that opens the door. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5–6, NKJV
Intimacy grows when we stop managing outcomes and allow Him access to every way, every path, every decision.
A.W. Tozer wrote, “The great secret of the Christian life is to begin experiencing God as He desires me to experience Him. God’s greatest delight is to bring me into His presence.” That truth creates something deep within us. God is not reluctant. He is not distant. He is delighted by nearness.
Smith Wigglesworth said it plainly, “The moment you pray you find that the heavens are opened. If you have to wait for the heavens to be opened something is wrong.” Intimacy is not earned through striving. It is entered through our surrender.
And still, it comes back to choice.
Today’s choice is not about doing more. It is about drawing nearer. About responding to the invitation already extended. Desire over distraction. Presence over performance. Relationship over routine.
If your heart feels distant, come anyway. If your prayers feel simple, offer them freely. If you are unsure how to begin, begin right where you are. God is already there.
An invitation still stands.
Come closer.
Before moving into tomorrow, take a moment to sit with Him. No agenda. No pressure. Simply acknowledge His nearness and tell Him you want more. Even that quiet willingness is a tremendous beginning.
And if you want a song to linger with today, let “The Rainbow Connection” play softly in the background. There is something woven into the human soul that longs for connection, for hope, for something just beyond what the eyes can see. Let it remind you that God Himself placed that longing there, and He alone intends to fulfill it.
