Anna’s story is short, unpretentious, and mostly unnoticed, yet it is nothing but radiant to God. She is one of approximately 180 women mentioned in the Bible by name, compared to approximately 1,800 men mentioned by name. That is a stark contrast and worth observing. She does not enter with notoriety, yet her presence carries depth and weight. Scripture tells us she was a prophetess, a widow, and a woman who never left the temple, but served God with fasting and prayers night and day. Worship was not a place she visited occasionally, it was the atmosphere of her life.
“and this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.” Luke 2:37 NKJV (some commentators suggest she had been a widow for 84 years, making her over 100.)
Anna’s devotion was not seasonal. It was not dependent on circumstances. It was formed through years of faithfulness, loss, perseverance, and hope. She chose worship not as a response to comfort or to be comforted, but to stay close to God. Her life tells us that worship is not just singing, it is so much more. It is choosing God again and again when no one is watching.
And when the moment arrived, Anna recognized it. She saw the child. She knew the promise. “Coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem” Luke 2:38. Years of worship sharpened her spiritual sight. She did not miss what God was doing because the eyes of her heart had been trained to recognize His presence.
Anna reminds us that worship prepares us for revelation. A life oriented toward God creates space for gratitude, discernment, and joy. Worship becomes the lens through which we see everything else.
As you reflect today, ask yourself: Do I recognize His presence? What does worship look like in my everyday life? Can I turn ordinary moments, minutes, and possibly hours into offerings of praise? What is the longest period of time I have been in my “secret place” (“when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.” Matthew 6:6 NLT) worshipping Him with my voice either speaking His praises or singing to Him?
Let’s take time to incline our hearts with gratitude for Him and all that He has done. Tomorrow, we will look into the joy that could not be contained, the announcement that changed everything, good news of great joy.
One of my favorite movies is “War Room,” and if you have never seen it, I encourage you to watch it. There is much to be learned about leaning into Him, learning to hear His voice a that when you do, it’s visible to those around you.

If this stirs something in your heart and you’ve never said yes to Jesus, or maybe you have, but you know it’s time to come home, can I pray with you right now? Just whisper, “Jesus, I need You. I believe You died for me and rose again. Come into my life, forgive me, lead me. I’m Yours.” That’s it. Everything heaven has been waiting to deliver is already yours the moment you ask.
Welcome! You are now a part of the family of God!
Make today count and see you tomorrow.
