~A Different Kind of Black Friday~

28.November.2025

The day after Thanksgiving carries a name almost everyone recognizes, no matter where they live, Black Friday. Some dive into it headfirst, others avoid it altogether, but nearly all of us feel its pull in one way or another. It is loud and colorful and rushed, a day when the world seems to inhale the spirit of more and chase after it with both hands. Some join in with excitement, some watch from the sidelines, and some quietly step away from it, yet in one way or another, we all brush against it. The ads find us. The deals call out to us. The tug of hurry tries to settle on our shoulders.

But have you ever wondered how this day got its name?

Historically, “Black Friday” was what police in Philadelphia called the heavy traffic and chaos that followed Thanksgiving in the 1960s. Later, retailers reshaped the story, saying it was the day their stores moved “out of the red and into the black.” But for most of us, it has become something else entirely, a symbol of the frantic push to buy, gather, and accumulate before Christmas arrives.

And honestly, it says something about our hearts.

About humanity.

About how easily we slip into grasping instead of resting, rushing instead of receiving, consuming instead of giving. It reveals how deeply we long for fullness, sometimes reaching for it in ways that never truly satisfy.

But for those who follow Jesus, this season speaks of a different invitation.

“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35 (NKJV)

We love to quote that, imagining a kind, generous person pouring out freely. But we often forget Jesus also taught us how to receive. On the night He washed the disciples’ feet, they had to let Him. They had to open their hands and allow love to come toward them. They had to receive grace that felt almost uncomfortable.

Receiving is woven into the heart of the gospel.

We love because He first loved us.

We give because He first gave to us.

We live because we first received His life.

So as the world around us whirls with noise and neon signs and shopping carts, let this day become something tender, and a moment to quietly ask:

Who am I becoming? Do the rhythms of my life reflect Him?

Let this season be one of giving, yes, but not the kind that drains or distracts.

🤍Give kindness.

🤍Give patience.

🤍Give presence.

🤍Give gratitude.

And when love comes toward you, when someone blesses you, helps you, or lifts you, let them. Receiving well honors God, because everything in the Kingdom begins with receiving Him.

“Gratitude turns what we have into enough.”

And let’s take that one step further: everything we give, everything we say, and everything we do does not go unnoticed by the Father.

He sees every act, every sacrifice, every quiet seed sown in faith.

It does not go unnoticed by Him.

“For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you, pressed down, shaken together, and running over.” Luke 6:38 (NKJV)

So let this season be different.

Let it be light. Let it be holy. Let it be marked by the kind of giving that stirs heaven,

…and the kind of receiving that allows others, and God Himself, to bless you deeply.

Because gratitude doesn’t just turn what we have into enough.

It turns the whole season back into worship.

If you’ve never surrendered to Jesus or have strayed, it’s not too late. He’s waiting to restore and renew you. Return to Him today and say this out loud:

~ Dear Heavenly Father ~

Thank You for sending Jesus to die on the Cross just for me. I admit that I have sinned, and I repent. I ask You to forgive me. I believe that He died and rose again. Right now, I make Him the Lord of my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. My sins are washed away, my past is forgiven, and my future is bright. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus’ Name Amen.

Here is a link to a minister and a ministry I deeply trust. If you make this decision for Christ, they will gladly send you a discipleship packet and help you take your first steps in building a healthy, steady walk with God. They will not badger you or chase you down. They are simply there to support you, encourage you, and guide you. He is a trusted friend, a solid teacher, and someone who can help lay the foundation of truth under your feet as you begin this new journey.
