Today I spent the day at Magic Mountain, a place that holds a lot of memories for me. As a kid, rollercoasters were a safe way to feel adrenaline in a world where so much felt unsafe. They became my way of saying, “I can face fear and survive it.” That thrill has stayed with me through the years, reminding me that calculated risks, those leaps we take with confidence in a safe outcome, can actually be freeing and empowering.
What’s a calculated risk? It’s like taking a bet where you’re certain of the outcome, like knowing you’re going to win before the first roll of the dice. Even with all the twists, turns, drops, and loops, most people step onto a rollercoaster confident that they’ll step off safely at the end. Why? Because engineers designed them, safety tests have been run, and protocols are in place.
But God is not human. He is the Almighty, perfect in wisdom, flawless in design, incapable of error. He is the Creator of heaven and earth, the One who knit us together in our mother’s womb. If we can trust flawed humans to design a ride that takes us through terrifying drops and dizzying spins, how much more can we trust the God who holds the universe in His hands?
Psalm 91 paints that picture clearly:
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.’” ~Psalm 91:1–2 NKJV~
When we know who we are in Him, when we anchor ourselves in His Word, and when we choose to live under the shadow of His wings, we are not gambling with our lives, we are walking in the assurance of His protection. Unlike a rollercoaster built by human hands, God’s covering is flawless. His promises don’t depend on the strength of metal or the skill of operators. His protection flows from His covenant, His character, and His love.
God is full of adventure, too. But His kind of calculated risk is never reckless. It’s completely secure when we’re anchored in Him. When He asks us to do something that looks risky, uncalculated, or even foolish to the natural mind, it’s not without purpose. He knows what it takes for us to grow in Him and deepen our trust in His voice. When He says, “Jump,” the only right response is, “How high, Sir?”
Trusting Him isn’t reckless, it’s the most secure decision we can ever make.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” ~Jeremiah 29:11 NLT~
“Great faith is the product of great fights. Great testimonies are the outcome of great tests. Great triumphs can only come out of great trials.” ~Smith Wigglesworth~

If you’ve never given your life to Jesus, or if you’ve walked away, trying to do life your own way it’s not too late. He’s calling you back. He’s been waiting.
Return to Him today. Surrender your plans, your pain, and your past. He’s ready to restore, renew, and realign you with your divine purpose.
~ Dear Heavenly Father ~
Thank You for sending Jesus to die on the Cross just for me. I admit that I have sinned, and I repent. I ask You to forgive me. I believe that He died and rose again. Right now, I make Him the Lord of my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. My sins are washed away, my past is forgiven, and my future is bright. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus’ Name Amen.
Make today count and see you tomorrow.
