~Joseph’s Quiet Obedience~

19.December.2025

Some stories in scripture are astoundingly amazing, but Joseph’s story is not vocal and forthright. It is the quiet kind of obedience, the steady kind, the kind that happens in the hidden places where God sees… the heart. Joseph does not preach, he does not sing, nor does he stand in a spotlight. He simply listens, believes, and obeys. And because of this, God honors him.

When Joseph found out that Mary was expecting, every natural instinct would have told him to walk away. Every cultural norm would have excused him. “As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭1‬:‭20‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Joseph did the one thing many of us overlook, he paused long and listened. He allowed God to speak into his confusion, his fear, and his disappointment. I can imagine the shock he felt and the betrayal he might have experienced not knowing the truth at first.

However, when God spoke, Joseph obeyed. Quietly. Immediately. Without needing the whole story explained.

Scripture tells us, “Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife,”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭1‬:‭24‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Just like that. No hesitation, no argument, no bargaining.

Joseph reminds us that obedience does not always look dramatic. Sometimes it is the simple decision to trust God’s voice over a spirit of fear. Sometimes it is choosing righteousness when no one would blame us for choosing the easier path. Sometimes it is doing what God asks even when people we know will not understand.

This is the beauty of Joseph’s role in the Christmas story. God entrusted the Savior of the world to the care of a man whose strength was found in faithfulness. A man whose obedience created a safe place for Jesus to grow. A man who lived his “yes” one ordinary day at a time.

As you reflect today, ask yourself: Where is God inviting me into quiet obedience? Where is He asking me to trust Him beyond what I can see?

Let this settle in your spirit. Quiet choices create powerful legacies. Think about that for a moment. You may even be changing the trajectory of your family’s future lives with your obedience. Quiet trust becomes empowered with His holy strength.

Tomorrow, we turn our eyes to another quiet witness in the Christmas story, a man who waited, watched, and believed for a lifetime.

If you’ve never surrendered to Jesus or have strayed, it’s not too late. He’s waiting to restore and renew you. Return to Him today and say this out loud:

Dear Heavenly Father ~ Thank You for sending Jesus to die on the Cross just for me. I admit that I have sinned, and I repent. I ask You to forgive me. I believe that He died and rose again. Right now, I make Him the Lord of my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. My sins are washed away, my past is forgiven, and my future is bright. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus’ Name Amen.
