Obedience matters. Every choice we make carries weight, shaping the life we live and the legacy we leave. Today we’ll see how faith and trust in God made all the difference for someone who chose to follow Him fully.
There’s something stirring about the story of David and Goliath. It’s one we’ve heard since childhood, yet every time I read it, I’m reminded that real faith doesn’t wait for perfect conditions, it steps forward when everything looks impossible.
When David arrived on the battlefield that day, he didn’t come looking for a fight. He came to serve, bringing bread and cheese to his brothers. But what he found was an army of grown men paralyzed by fear. Goliath’s voice thundered across the valley, “Choose a man and let him come down to me” (1 Samuel 17:8). Day after day, Israel’s soldiers were afraid. But in that moment, a shepherd boy saw something they didn’t.
He saw the God who had always been faithful.
David’s words still echo: “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Host’s” (1 Samuel 17:45). That’s the language of faith: bold, anchored, and sure. His confidence wasn’t in his slingshot or his aim, but in the God Who had delivered him before.
David remembered. He remembered the lion. He remembered the bear. He remembered the God who had strengthened his hands when no one was watching. “The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine” (1 Samuel 17:37).
Sometimes, obedience looks like running toward what everyone else is running from.
David didn’t need armor. He didn’t need applause. He just needed faith in the God who never fails. And when that stone flew from his sling, it carried more than skill, it carried trust.
That one act of obedience changed everything. David’s faith didn’t just bring victory that day, it set a legacy in motion. Generations would remember his courage, his trust, and his declaration that “the battle is the Lord’s” (1 Samuel 17:47).
What a powerful reminder that the size of the giant doesn’t determine the outcome, obedience does. When our faith rests in God, fear loses its voice.

Faithful obedience leaves a lasting legacy. The choices we make today echo into tomorrow, shaping who we are and how God’s story is told through us. Tomorrow, we’ll meet another faith giant whose trust in God changed everything.
