There’s a moment in Saul’s story where the air feels heavy. The instructions from God were clear, yet somewhere between what was spoken and what was done, something shifted. Saul understood what the Lord had said, but he decided to obey in a way that was more convenient, something that made sense to him. “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” (Proverbs 14:12 NKJV).
It looked close enough, but it was not what God had said. “Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice” (1 Samuel 15:22). I can almost see him standing there, trying to explain away his choices, convincing himself that what he offered was good enough. But God isn’t after “good enough.” He isn’t impressed by what looks holy from the outside. He is after the heart. Saul’s partial obedience cost him the kingdom, but it revealed something deeper than a single action, it showed a heart that trusted itself more than it trusted God.
Obedience is often quiet. It’s choosing His way even when no one is watching, surrendering when it would be easier to justify our own path. When obedience costs us, it doesn’t diminish God’s faithfulness, it deepens our dependence on Him.
If the Lord is calling you to lay something down that feels costly, come to Him with open hands. He isn’t demanding perfection, He’s inviting surrender. And if you need a reminder of His mercy and nearness, let “Come to the Altar” fill the room around you. His arms are still open.

~ Dear Heavenly Father ~
Thank You for sending Jesus to die on the Cross just for me. I admit that I have sinned, and I repent. I ask You to forgive me. I believe that He died and rose again. Right now, I make Him the Lord of my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. My sins are washed away, my past is forgiven, and my future is bright. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus’ Name Amen.
Make today count and see you tomorrow.
