Fear and love cannot occupy the same space. When one is present, the other must leave. Scripture tells us in 1 John 4:18, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.”
That verse has comforted me more times than I can count. It reveals something powerful about the nature of God’s love—it is not fragile or partial. It is perfect, complete, and strong enough to expel fear from the deepest corners of the heart. Fear cannot remain where His love is fully received.
Often when fear lingers, it is because somewhere deep inside, we have believed a lie about God’s character. Maybe we doubt His goodness, His timing, or His willingness to care for us. But when His love takes root, those lies lose their hold. His love brings security, and security silences fear.
1 John 4:18 has been a familiar verse fora long time, yet I have wrestled with anxiety that seemed to come from nowhere. It was not until I asked the Lord to show me where fear was hiding that He gently revealed something deeper. Each time there were areas where I had not fully trusted His heart. The more He showed me His love in that place, the more peace came. I leaned my authority and was triumphant over that little imp called fear. Fear could not stay where love was growing.
The enemy wants us to believe that fear keeps us safe, but love is what truly protects us. Fear builds walls; love builds trust. Fear isolates; love invites us closer. Fear says, “You are on your own.” Love says, “I am with you always.”
When we rest in God’s love, we stop striving to earn peace and begin to live from it. His perfect love does not just comfort us, it miraculously changes us inside. And when fear tries to return, we can remind it, Perfect love drives out fear. That is not just a verse; it is a promise backed by the authority He’s given to us a the unchanging nature of God Himself.
As you take a moment to reflect today, ask the Lord to reveal any place in your heart that still allows fear. Let His love meet you there. Let it wash over every worry, every memory, every hidden insecurity. Because when His love fills our hearts, fear has no choice but to leave.
For today’s song, I’m reminded of one that speaks the language of love and trust so well.
“I Love You, Lord,” and was written by Laurie Klein 1978, and is still enjoyed by many.

~ Dear Heavenly Father ~
Thank You for sending Jesus to die on the Cross just for me. I admit that I have sinned, and I repent. I ask You to forgive me. I believe that He died and rose again. Right now, I make Him the Lord of my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. My sins are washed away, my past is forgiven, and my future is bright. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus’ Name Amen.
Make today count and see you tomorrow.
