When Paul wrote to Timothy, he reminded him of something that feels just as timely for us today: “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). That one verse tells us two important truths. First, fear is not from God. Second, fear is more not a feeling, Scripture calls it a spirit.
That changes the way we see it, doesn’t it? If fear were only an emotion, maybe we could wait for it to fade or try to push it down with positive thoughts. But if fear is a spirit, then it has a voice, it seeks influence us, and it tries to get us to agree with it. The enemy loves to use fear as a tool to paralyze us, whispering “what if” and “you can’t” until we stop moving forward in faith. Even attempting to get us to back down from what God said, questioning, if God really said that to us.
I can think back to times when fear tried to stop me. Sometimes it was subtle, a small hesitation before stepping into something new. Other times, it was so heavy it felt like my gut was twisted and I might throw up. Maybe you’ve felt that too. What helped me was realizing that I didn’t have to accept fear as mine and rebuke it. Just because fear knocks doesn’t mean we have to open the door. We do what Jesus did speaking the Word which is to down
The Bible doesn’t tell us to pretend fear doesn’t exist. Instead, it teaches us to recognize where it comes from and to refuse its authority over us. We can say with confidence, “This is not from God, and I will not receive it.” That’s the beginning of living free, not by denying fear, but by refusing to bow to it.
As we close today, hold that truth in your heart: God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Fear may knock, but it does not get the final word. We can choose to stand in what God says over what fear whispers.
Let’s end this time by declaring with faith and voice what we know to be true. Here’s a song that echoes our heart cry: “I Will Not Be Afraid.”

Thank You for sending Jesus to die on the Cross just for me. I admit that I have sinned, and I repent. I ask You to forgive me. I believe that He died and rose again. Right now, I make Him the Lord of my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. My sins are washed away, my past is forgiven, and my future is bright. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus’ Name Amen.
Make today count and see you tomorrow.
