~Promise of Guidance~

30.September.2025

One of the most reassuring truths we carry as believers is that God has promised to guide us. His Word says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5–6). His guidance isn’t only for the “big” decisions of life, it reaches down into the small, ordinary moments that we often overlook.

This past Saturday, I was walking my dog, and about a block from making a left-hand turn, I decided to cross a back street. What I didn’t realize was that a 1-ton dually pickup truck was coming up behind us. My dog and I were safely on the sidewalk, but as we turned to look, I noticed the truck pass, and right after it cleared so we could see the other side of the street, and I saw something that has stayed with me. Lying in the street, just feet from the other sidewalk, was a little white malti-poo. Lifeless. Its owner ran to it, heartbroken, and all I could do was run to them with my own dog, asking if there was anything I could do. She said no, and so we walked away, but the visual has not left my thoughts.

In the days since, I’ve wrestled with the ‘what ifs’. What if I hadn’t crossed when I did? What if that sweet little dog hadn’t run across at that exact moment? Did God whisper something to me that I missed? At the end of the day, animals are animals, they don’t think logically about whether to cross the street or not. But the questions have made me more aware than ever of how much I need to hear His voice clearly in every situation, no matter how big or how small. Because everything matters.

God’s promise of guidance is not just about knowing which career to pursue or where to live. It’s about being sensitive to the nudges of His Spirit in the everyday. Sometimes those nudges protect us, sometimes they position us, and sometimes they simply remind us how dependent we really are on Him. What I know for certain is this: He is faithful to guide His children, and the more we lean in, the more we’ll recognize His voice.

Let’s back up for just a moment and go over something important. When things like this happen, we need to know, according to John 10:10, that it was never God’s will. Only the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Once he has killed, his goal is to destroy us through guilt, condemnation, or even fear that the same thing might happen to us. But we cannot embrace those lies. We must take a firm stance and move forward in faith.

We can’t wallow in what’s happened or give the enemy any pleasure in our pain. This is where we remember that we are no longer loyal to the person we once were before we died with Christ and were raised to new life in Him. Sometimes, it’s like trading in an old pair of sneakers. The worn ones are comfortable, familiar, and easy to slip into — but they’re also worn out. Eventually, they must be tossed aside for something new. And while breaking in new shoes can feel awkward or uncomfortable, they are what carry us forward.

In the same way, learning new habits and new ways of responding may feel stretching, but this is how we grow into the people God has called us to be. What once would have unraveled us doesn’t have to define us anymore. Instead, by leaning into His guidance, we are equipped to stand firm, walk free, and move forward with strength.

Lord, thank You that You promise to guide me. Teach me to hear You clearly, even in the smallest decisions. Help me to trust Your Spirit more than my own reasoning, and to live with a heart tuned to Your voice. Let my steps be led by You today and always.

~ Dear Heavenly Father ~

Thank You for sending Jesus to die on the Cross just for me. I admit that I have sinned, and I repent. I ask You to forgive me. I believe that He died and rose again. Right now, I make Him the Lord of my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. My sins are washed away, my past is forgiven, and my future is bright. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus’ Name Amen.

Make today count and see you tomorrow.
