One of the most damaging lies believers face is the idea that God sends sickness, tragedy, or loss to “teach us a lesson” or “humble us.” This mindset doesn’t bring freedom, it brings confusion and distance from the very God who loves us.

But Jesus makes it plain. He said in John 10:10:

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

If something steals, kills, or destroys, it’s from the enemy. Period. If something brings life, restoration, and hope, it’s from Jesus. Period. We must stop attributing the works of Satan to the heart of God.

How do we know what God’s will looks like? We look at Jesus. Hebrews 1:3 tells us He is “the exact representation of God’s being.” When Jesus walked the earth, He didn’t put sickness on people—He healed them. He didn’t push people into despair, He lifted them up. He didn’t steal their loved ones, He restored life.

God is not the author of your pain. He is the Healer, the Restorer, the Redeemer. Any theology that tells you otherwise puts a veil between you and the truth of His goodness.

Reflection Question: Where have you been tempted to believe that your pain came from God? What shifts when you look at Jesus as the exact picture of the Father’s will?

Prayer: Lord, break every lie that paints You as the source of pain, loss, or sickness. Help me see Jesus clearly and know that Your heart is always for life, freedom, and restoration. Let my faith be rooted in truth, that You are good, and every good gift comes from You.

As you allow this lie to be broken off your thinking, let “Goodness of God” wash over you. Declare it as truth: He has been faithful, He has been good, and He will never stop pursuing you with His love.
