The Bible tells us, “He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.” ~Psalm 2:4~ God is not shaken by the plots of men or the plans of the enemy. His throne is established forever, and “The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth. The Lord shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.” ~Psalm 37:12–13 KJV~
This divine laughter is not careless, it is the sound of victory. It is the confidence of a God who already knows the end from the beginning. And because we belong to Him, we share in that victory. But Scripture also gives us a charge: “Neither give place to the devil.” ~Ephesians 4:27~ The enemy only gains access where we allow it.
That is why our posture before the Lord is serious and intentional. “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: whom resist stedfast in the faith.” ~1 Peter 5:8–9~ We cannot be casual in our walk. Our laughter at the enemy’s plans is rooted in confidence, but our seriousness is rooted in vigilance.
Paul reminds us, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” ~1 Corinthians 15:58~ The victory Christ won requires our participation—we must stand, resist, and enforce His authority in our lives.
So when the enemy comes against us, we do not respond in fear but in faith. “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” ~Romans 8:31~ Jesus has already stripped Satan of his power: “And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” ~Colossians 2:15~
That is why we can laugh at the enemy’s attempts, they are powerless and foolish against a child of God who stands firm. Our joy is rooted in His triumph, and our seriousness is found in our steadfastness. We live with both: laughing with God, and standing strong in His authority.
