“This day I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life…” ~Deuteronomy 30:19~
Over many posts, I’ve made the statement that “God is sovereign. But He is not a puppet master.” After a few meaningful conversations over the weekend, I realized I needed to unpack that more clearly—because for many, that idea feels uncomfortable or even unfamiliar. It seems to be widely accepted that everything that happens is fora “reason,” or a purpose or something God has orchestrated. But the truth is, He doesn’t.
So, here goes: a few days of digging into what I really mean when I say that.
Yes, God is in sovereign—but He’s not “in control” in the way many people think. He’s not pulling strings or micromanaging every detail of our lives. In fact, much of what people credit to His “control,” He has actually delegated to us. From the beginning, God chose partnership over domination—He gave us real authority and real choice. His sovereignty doesn’t override our will; it empowers it. And what we do with that freedom really does matter.
“But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served … But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.””
~Joshua 24:15 NLT~
Do you believe your choices matter? What areas have you been passively waiting on God when He may be waiting on you?
“For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.” ~Galatians 5:13 NLT~
“God intends us to be like Himself. His purpose, through the redemptive plan of Jesus Christ, is to take poor fallen man and by the power of His grace bring him back to the place from which he fell.”

“I surrender / I want to know You more…”
When we surrender our will, our thoughts, and our ways, we step into full submission—real trust. In response to that surrender, God knows He can trust us to follow through with His desires for our lives. That’s when He begins to unfold His plan—not just any plan, but His Plan A, the perfect path He designed uniquely for each of us. And when that kind of divine exchange takes place, we gain a confidence to obey, even when it feels risky. We become willing to do anything He asks of us because we trust.
Father, thank You for trusting me with free will. Help me to choose Your way—willingly, daily, and with joy.
If you’ve never given your life to Jesus, or if you’ve walked away, trying to do life your own way it’s not too late. He’s calling you back. He’s been waiting.
Return to Him today. Surrender your plans, your pain, and your past. He’s ready to restore, renew, and realign you with your divine purpose.
~ Dear Heavenly Father ~
Thank You for sending Jesus to die on the Cross just for me. I admit that I have sinned, and I repent. I ask You to forgive me. I believe that He died and rose again. Right now, I make Him the Lord of my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. My sins are washed away, my past is forgiven, and my future is bright. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus’ Name Amen.
Make today count and see you tomorrow.
