~ZipWorld Velocity-in the rain ~

It was pouring.

Not a polite mist or an occasional sprinkle—this was full-on, sideways Welsh rain. And yes, this was the exact moment I was supposed to launch myself across a quarry at over 100 mph at Zip World Velocity, the fastest zip line in the world.

I had a decision to make: call it off or lean into the rain. And if you know me, you already know the answer.

So there I was, suited up in a soggy red flight suit, water dripping off my helmet, eyes squinting through rain-smeared goggles, heart racing—but not from the weather.

Let me just say, rain doesn’t cancel adventure—it intensifies it.

From the moment we checked in, the staff was calm, friendly, and totally unfazed by the weather. Apparently, this is just a normal Thursday in Wales. After the safety briefing and a warm-up run on the smaller line (which honestly felt like a ride in itself), we were off to the top of the quarry.

Standing on that launch platform, wind howling, clouds low, and rain slapping my face—I felt alive. There’s something about staring down fear, knowing full well you’re about to leave the ground and fly into the unknown, prone position, wrapped up like a burrito that makes your soul sit up straighter.

And fly I did. Soaring over that misty landscape, it didn’t even matter that my goggles were becoming totally smeared with water. The quarry below was gorgeous, and honestly, I wouldn’t trade that moment for a dry one. There was beauty in the wildness.

I came off that line soaked, grinning, and somehow… lighter.

If you’re ever thinking of doing Zip World and the weather’s not perfect—go anyway. Sometimes the best memories aren’t polished or picture-perfect. They’re muddy, windswept, unpredictable… and righteous in their own kind of way.
