As believers, our identity should be rooted solely in God’s approval, not man’s. Yet so often, we fall into the trap of measuring ourselves by what we do and how others see us. I have seen myself in almost every distorted belief system from the need to meet certain standards to feel good about myself, to the craving for others’ approval, I recognized it all. Sadly, those lies of the enemy had become the loudest voices inside me, often even louder than God’s voice, leaving me feeling frustrated and confused.
When I confronted those lies with the Truth of God’s Word, it was incredibly freeing. I felt like I was looking into a mirror when considering myself in a performance trap, addicted to approval, blaming others or identifying with shame. I saw parts of my life in each one. Thankfully, each one also has a Biblical truth to counter the lie. We are justified by Jesus and no longer have to earn our place, When I finally realize this, I honestly wanted to cry.
“For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
II Corinthians 5:14-17 NKJV
What patterns of thinking are you holding onto that are not lining up with God’s Word and are actually detrimental to your success as a believer being conformed to the image of Jesus?
“But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior,”
Titus 3:4-6 NKJV
It’s still important that you do all things as unto the Lord and not unto man with excellence, but you don’t have to prove anything to anyone except God, and He’s already chosen you! Not based on performance, but because He loves you. And that love doesn’t change whether you succeed or fail. It’s amazing to realize His love is constant, unconditional, and healing.
“We are not changed by trying harder but by seeing more clearly how deeply we are loved.” – Tim Keller
If you have not committed your life to Jesus, or you have walked away from Him doing your own thing, I invite you to come back to Him today.
~ Dear Heavenly Father ~
Thank You for sending Jesus to die on the Cross just for me. I admit that I have sinned, and I repent. I ask You to forgive me. I believe that He died and rose again. Right now, I make Him the Lord of my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. My sins are washed away, my past is forgiven, and my future is bright. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus’ Name Amen.
Make today count and see you tomorrow.
