This can be a tender and even painful topic for many, trust me, I’ve been there too. For a long time, it was difficult for me to fully grasp. Over time, God has gently revealed the truth of His Word to me, and He’s shown Himself to be everything He promises, steadfast, loving, and completely unlike any earthly father I’ve known. His character is unmatched, and His heart is always for me. With that in mind, let’s turn to one of the most powerful illustrations of His love: the parable of the prodigal son, found in Luke 15.
“So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him. His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son.’ “But his father said to the servants, ‘Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast, for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.’ So the party began.” ~ Luke 15:20-24 NLT ~
With all that in mind, I can honestly say that, despite the circumstances surrounding how my earthly, biological father treated me, deep down I knew he loved me in the best way he knew how. Over time, I came to understand that God’s love, His perfect, unwavering agape love, is entirely different. Unlike human love, it never wounds, manipulates, or fails. Yes, there is correction and discipline, but it’s always wrapped in grace and designed for our growth, not our harm. His love is consistent, kind, and flawless in every way. Check out what it says in Matthew:
“So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.” ~ Matthew 7:11 NLT ~
“God is not the reflection of your earthly father, He is the perfection of fatherhood.” ~ Louie Giglio ~
If you have not committed your life to Jesus, or you have walked away from Him doing your own thing, I invite you to come back to Him today.
~ Dear Heavenly Father ~
Thank You for sending Jesus to die on the Cross just for me. I admit that I have sinned, and I repent. I ask You to forgive me. I believe that He died and rose again. Right now, I make Him the Lord of my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. My sins are washed away, my past is forgiven, and my future is bright. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus’ Name Amen.
Make today count and see you tomorrow.
